Anthony Maroon has landed a surprise radio gig.
The former Triple M weekend footy host went live on Monday at 4pm alongside Jude Bolton and Wendell Sailor on weekday drive show, The Rush Hour with Gus, Jude and Wendell.
It came after usual co-host Gus Worland had to undergo an emergency hernia operation after attending a Gotcha4Life fundraiser in Orange at the weekend.
“What started with a fundraiser for my foundation @gotcha4life in @visit_orange at the mighty @orangeemusrugby on Saturday night turns into an emergency hernia operation,” Worland wrote on Instagram, sharing an image of himself in a hospital bed.
“Brilliant staff. Here for a few days.”
Maroon is a seasoned radio host who recently gave up his Sunday Sin Bin hosting gig to focus on calling games for the station after an on air blow up. That show is now hosted by James Hooper, Liam Flanagan and Gorden Tallis.
A long list of well wishers took to Instagram, meanwhile, to offer support to Worland.
“Oh mate that’s terrible. I hope you feel a lot better soon Gussy,” Home And Away actor Georgie Parker wrote, with actor and TV presenter Toni Pearen adding: “Oh no … quick recovery.”
Mark Geyer wrote: “Hope you’re feelin better Angus! Hernia, time to stop the 35kg deadlifts brother.”
Worland is a much loved radio identity who devotes much of his time to his mental health charity, Gotcha4Life.
Later this week, Worland was scheduled to host a Chemist Warehouse Gotcha4Life celebrity lunch for Men’s Health Week at Crown Sydney with guests including Rob Mills and Johnny Ruffo. The event is still going ahead.
