Just in time for Christmas — Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew has given birth to a healthy baby girl.

Molly Matilda Christie Varcoe was born at 8.05pm on Wednesday night, a week after her December 11 due date and in time to be home for Christmas on December 25.

Bartholomew and husband Neil Varcoe couldn’t be happier with their bundle of joy, who measured 53cm and weighed 3.44kgson arrival.

“She wasn’t in any hurry to enter the world,” Bartholomew joked.

“Late like her mum, tall like her dad and already an early riser. We are exhausted, elated and very grateful for all the lovely messages of support over the last few weeks.”

Molly’s late arrival worked out perfectly for the couple, who were doing the final touches on their home renovation up until hours before they went to the hospital on Tuesday.

Bartholomew and Varcoe have been living with her parents for the past five months as renovations were being completed and are looking forward to moving into the home as a family of three this weekend.

“She was a team player the whole time, I had a really great pregnancy,” Bartholomew said.

“She came a week late, which was perfect for our moving. I feel like she could have come out a little quicker at the end but we won’t hold that against her. It has been a pretty full on few weeks getting ready and even when we were in hospital, my parents had to go over and finish the nursery because it was still full of boxes and not at all set up.”

In June, 36-year-old Bartholomew announced live on air that she was pregnant her first child.

“The girls already know but Kochie, surprise. We’re having a baby,” she said to an elated David Koch.

The couple, who were married in a country wedding on their farm in April last year, chose to keep the gender of their baby a surprise.

“It’s an interesting debate because Neil wants to find out and I don’t,” Bartholomew said, as an ultra-scan photo of the little one appeared on screen.

The couple met while working together at radio station 2GB. While engaged they bought and renovated a 1890s farmhouse Warramba, just outside Lithgow, about 225km west of Sydney where Varcoe grew up.
