LOOKING good is all about good lighting for TV host Sonia Kruger. Oh, and genetics, a healthy diet and consistent exercise.
“My mum has great skin, the best of all of us in the family so I think I was just lucky in that regard,” Kruger told Confidential.
“You know how you can tell the age of a tree by the number of rings around its trunk? Well, with a TV presenter, you can tell the age of a presenter by the number of lights they have.”
The 54-year-old has launched her own fitness and nutritional program, Strictly You.
The program includes daily exercises, dance-based workouts focusing on different parts of the body, as well as a meal planner.
“My tip is to be consistent, just get into the groove, try to do a little bit each day and don’t beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon, and try and be the best version of yourself as you can.”
The title Strictly You is obviously a throw back to iconic Baz Luhrmann directed Aussie flick Strictly Ballroom, in which Kruger played the character of dancer Tina Sparkle.
“When I danced professionally, it never felt like I was exercising and as it turns out, I was,” said Kruger, who is mum to four-year-old daughter, Maggie. “I actually really like it when people reference Tina Sparkle. It is a great Australian movie and I am just lucky I was part of it really. Tina is still there on a Friday night after a couple of few of white wine.”
Kruger noted that her clients were largely women over 40, although men “love to dance too”.
“Everything changes, your metabolism changes and we often have families so you don’t work out as often,” she said of getting older. “You have to really try and make a concerted effort and be consistent with it and so, to me, if it is enjoyable and fun and something you can do with your friends, you are going to have a better success rate.”
