THE harsh reality of the dating game in Sydney forced Casey Donovan to take matters into her own hands.

Unlucky in love — and still recovering from a nasty catfishing incident — the singer and actor put her faith in television producers by agreeing to take part in new reality dating show Blind Date.

“It is hard work (the dating scene),” Donovan said.

“Considering I’ve never had a boyfriend and people can just put my name into Google and one of the first things that comes up is a fake relationship for six years and that I was a sex addict, which is always great to water down and explain what really happened.”

Donovan, 30, revealed in her autobiography Big Beautiful And Sexy — recently re-released as Big, Beautiful And Sexier — that she was in a hoax telephone relationship with a man named Campbell that turned out to be a female friend of hers.

Now though, she’s optimistic about the future and joked Blind Date was the “closest thing she’s got to being the Bachelorette”.

“Having that crushing catfishing experience to then going out into the world of real people and real boys was a massive change in my life, finding the confidence within myself to realise guys might want to date me,” she said.

“Having all of these inner demons to fight with, like thinking I’m too big, there comes a point where I had to accept who I am for what I am and what I do, and slowly but surely I have found the confidence to be proud at whatever size I am.

“Happy is what I’ve always wanted to be. And I think I am there now … most of the time anyway.”

Donovan’s episode of Blind Date will air on Channel 10 at 7.30pm on Monday.
