And just weeks after being promoted to the plum role as Seven’s US bureau chief, statuesque reporter Ashlee Mullany is being linked to one of the network’s fastest rising male stars, Sunday Night reporter Matt Doran.

Doran, say insiders, is tipped for bigger things at the network and is one of the contenders tipped to replace Sunrise host David Koch when Koch’s contract lapses at the end of 2019.

He filled in for Koch on Sunrise in August 2017.

The rugged self-starter has been single since splitting from former MasterChef finalist and Everyday Gourmet host Justine Schofield last year.

In March the one-time Melbourne crime reporter was tapped to join Seven’s flagship news and public affairs show Sunday Night alongside Steve Pennells, Denham Hitchcock, Alex Cullen and Angela Cox after spending two years based in the US anchoring the syndicated crime news program Crime Watch Daily.

A source for Mullany yesterday denied the rumours of a love match however network insiders maintain the romance is on between the two Los Angeles-based colleagues.

The US bureau chief position is a coveted role at Seven and 20-something Mullany’s appointment, less than two years after moving to television from newspapers, has drawn in-house criticism at Seven from colleagues claiming she has become a favourite of Seven boss Craig McPherson.

Mullany’s profile received a random push in October 2017 when the reporter found herself accidentally caught up in the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Hotel mass shooting of concert goers, 59 of whom died at the hands of gunman Stephen Paddock.

Mullany had been asleep in the hotel when the slaughter took place and woke to a horror scene.
