Multiple worlds collided at the iconic Sydney Opera House this week.

Making its Australian debut, the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir joined forces with The Metropolitan Orchestra of Sydney for a one-night only performance on Monday.

The Marvels of Saudi Orchestra concert mixed genres as didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton, The Cat Empire’s Felix Riebl and saxophonist Nicholas Russoniello also took to the stage.

“This marked the first time the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir had performed in Australia, and included a collaborative segment between the orchestras, showcasing a harmonious blend of both countries musical heritage,” organisers said.

The evening also included performances curated by the Saudi Theatre and Performing Arts Commission.

Sydney was the seventh stop on the global tour for the large production that had its premiere at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and has also had performances in Mexico City, New York, London, Tokyo and Riyadh.

It was described as an “evening of artistic excellence, where cultural traditions and contemporary innovation harmonise beautifully on the global stage”.

“This unforgettable concert celebrates Saudi music’s rich heritage and its modern evolution,” organisers said.

“From traditional melodies to innovative arrangements, this performance offers an extraordinary journey of musical mastery.”

Saudi Music Commission chief executive Paul Pacifico said it was special to perform at the famous venue.

“It has been a privilege to have been invited to share Saudi music on the stage of the iconic Sydney Opera House House for the first time,” he said.

“Our collaboration with The Metropolitan Orchestra and our special guests, have allowed us to explore and represent both the ancient and contemporary practices of both cultures.

“We have enjoyed a unique musical dialogue that reflects the spirit of friendship and authentic collaboration that music enables, reminding us of our shared humanity across our pasts, presents and futures.:
