Sam Newman says WAG rotisserie would fix the Brownlow
FOOTBALL commentator Sam Newman says the Brownlow Medal needs the rotisserie-style WAG-On-Wheel to keep the event exciting.
FOOTBALL commentator Sam Newman says the Brownlow Medal needs the rotisserie-style WAG-On-Wheel to keep the event exciting.
“It’s a quaint award when you think about it — an award given by umpires, I’m not sure how it’s got (the status) of where it is today,” Newman told Confidential.
But the provocative Footy Show host said the red carpet arrivals, including the much-maligned fashion pod, should be exploited to the max.

“Let’s milk it for what it is,” Newman said.
“It’s a fantastic gala event to showcase potentially great players. The more we can dress it up and make it go completely over the top is fantastic.
“Men and women get a chance to tart themselves up, and think they’re more important than they are, I think it’s great.”
Newman also supported commentary and criticism about red carpet fashions and appearance.
“In this politically correct day and age, I think it’s fantastic that we judge people for the way they look,” he said.
“We’re still allowed to look good, aren’t we? Put them on the revolving pedestals — the men, too — and take photos of them. Take all the sexy shots you need.”
LEAVE SAM ALONE, HE’S TRUE BLUE FUNNY
The WAG-On-Wheel sparked outrage when it debuted in 2011. It was rested in 2012, and spun back into town a year later.
Sam Stynes, wife of late Melbourne legend Jim, argued: “How do the WAGs stand a chance when asked to display themselves on a giant Lazy Susan?’’
Socialite Brynne Edelsten said: “I felt embarrassed to be on it. You wanted it to end, but then it would go around a second time.”
Dane Swan’s girlfriend Taylor Wilson refused to get on the fashion pod.
