“I used to have Survivor nights at my mum’s place when she was really sick before she died in 2001,” he said. “It was her thing, she loved the show and we would have dinner and watch it. It blows my mind that I’m now here doing it.

“I feel all warm and fuzzy being here knowing that she would be so rapt, she would be loving the fact that I’m on this show. I’m stoked.”

The 42-year-old will be part of the new season of Survivor Australia that will pit a team of “champions of public life” against ordinary Aussies for the chance to win $500,000.

“This took no convincing at all,” Rogers said.

“I didn’t even check the calendar, I just knew I’d make it work so I could do this show. I’ve watched almost every season.”

Rogers and his wife, model, and TV and radio presenter Chloe Maxwell, are parents to two young children — daughter Phoenix, 10, and son Max, 11.

He also has two adult children, Skyla and Jack, with his first wife Michelle.

He said if he won the show, he would spend the $500,000 taking his documentary-loving autistic son to Africa “to see the lions” and contribute funds to his charity 4 ASD Kids, which helps autistic kids.
