Robert Irwin had to “cake on” makeup ahead of the Logies to hide scars from a freak incident during the week.
“I’ve been up north catching crocodiles for about a month,” the Gold Logie Award nominee for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television told Confidential.
“We do amazing, ground breaking crocodile research. I’ve just got back from hanging off the back of a crocodile.
“I was hanging onto a big 14 footer, his name is Greg. I’ve grabbed him around the head and ‘boom’ he smashes me into a tree, took a whole bunch of skin off (my face).
He said prior to Sunday night’s event, his makeup artist had to work hard to cover the redness and remaining scratched up skin on the side of his face.
“It’s healed up but the makeup artist had to absolutely cake it on, on the side so it doesn’t look like I’ve been in the wars,” Irwin, 20 said.
Despite the facial scarring, Irwin – who is the youngest Gold Logie nominee, said he is set to fly “straight back up” after the Logies, win or no win.
“It would mean everything (to win) but to be honest just to be here is a win in itself,” he said.
“It’s another platform to get my message out there.
“As my dad used to say ‘I don’t mind if people remember listening to me but I want people to listen to my message and what I stand for’.”
Irwin is nominated for the coveted Gold for his role as host of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
