Crikey! Robert Irwin has gone wild at the gym.
In images that could equally shock and excite, Australia’s favourite wildlife warrior has stripped to his undies to spearhead Bonds’ first-ever campaign push into the United States.
Joining the 21-year-old in the Made For Down Under campaign is singer, songwriter and rapper Tkay Maidza.
“I’ve worn Bonds my whole life, and now, being part of this campaign feels
unreal — it’s an honour to represent such an iconic Aussie brand on the global stage,” Irwin said.
“Bonds truly captures the laid-back Aussie spirit and sense of adventure we’re known
for, and I’m stoked to help bring that feeling to America.
“I’m also really happy that we feature the beautiful wildlife I work hard to protect.”
The campaign features real-life Aussie critters with Irwin seen in shots with a giant olive python, a black headed python, a perentie lizard and also a large huntsman spider on his shoulder.
Irwin and Maidza feature in classic locations, one being an iconic fibro house with a Hills hoist, sprinkler and lawnmower in the background, and another a long dirt country road.
The TV ad features a guy jumping on a trampoline in the backyard behind Irwin as he drinks an ice-cold drink of water in the early evening.
“We cannot wait for our US mates to experience Bonds for the first time,” head of marketing Kedda Ghazarian said.
The campaign will roll out across the US digitally, in print magazines, billboards and on television this month, and will run through for the remainder of the year.
The campaign was shot in February in Goulburn, about two hours out of Sydney.
Bonds president Tanya Deans added: “From The Outback to the beach, Aussies live life to the
fullest — often surrounded by sharks, snakes, and spiders — but there’s one thing that keeps them relaxed through it all: wearing comfy Bonds undies.”
Bonds has been around locally for more than 100 years and is one of Australia’s most recognisable brands.
Some of the most memorable brand ambassador campaigns have included Pat Rafter, Michael Clarke, Dustin Martin, Samara Weaving and Miranda Kerr.
