Electric Fields, Montaigne and G Flip will also perform at Mardi Gras on Saturday, March 6.

Instead of the traditional parade route along Oxford Street, Mardi Gras in next month will be held in the Sydney Cricket Ground as a ticketed event due to the pandemic.

“The Parade is such a special event for the community,” Mardi Gras chief executive Albert Kruger said. “It is a loud, proud and welcoming celebration of community spirit and connectedness. The move to the SCG has presented us with a unique opportunity to add to the spectacle of the Parade with some truly awe-inspiring performances and we are thrilled to have a worldwide superstar in Rita Ora join this once-in-a-lifetime Parade. As always we have a few more surprises in store for the night, so keep an eye out.”

The parade will be broadcast live on SBS for those that can’t make it in person.

Ora will call Sydney home for the next few months after completing mandatory coronavirus quarantine at a local hotel.
She is due to begin work on the new season of The Voice Australia alongside other coaches Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian.

Montaigne meanwhile celebrated Mardi Gras season with the launch of the Sunglass Hut Doodad + Fandango collaboration at Cafe Freda’s, supporting youth charity, Twenty10.

Montaigne appears in the shoot alongside her partner, Patrick Morrow.

“I have always wanted to wave my introvert flag at Mardi Gras,” the singer, who identifies as queer, told Confidential.

“I can find it a bit overwhelming, there is a lot of stimuli but at least I get to be a part of it in a way that feels safe and comfortable for me and still allows me to express myself and also show other introverted people you can still do things even if you are overwhelmed by large crowds.”

She continued: “I feel very fortunate that I feel confident and safe in expressing my identity. I feel I guess a responsibility to express that to help other people also feel safe and confident. The more we discuss these things in normal social discourse, the more normalised it becomes.”
