Errol Alcott: Ex-Australian cricket team physio charged over alleged DV

Former Australian cricket team sports physiotherapist and tennis champion Dylan Alcott’s uncle, Errol Alcott, has been charged with domestic violence following an alleged assault against his wife.

Veteran Australian sports physiotherapist Errol Alcott has been charged over an alleged domestic violence incident involving his wife of 20 years.

Court documents reveal Mr Alcott, who was the physio in charge of the Australian cricket team for more than two decades, allegedly assaulted his wife Amanda in Caringbah South where he lives on the night of July 15.

The incident allegedly took place between 9.15pm and 9.25pm, before Mr Alcott attended Miranda Police Station and was arrested before being taken to Sutherland Police Station.

The father of four and uncle of wheelchair tennis star and Paralympic basketball champion Dylan Alcott, was then charged with common assault and police have applied for an apprehended violence order protecting Mrs Alcott.

NSW Police said Mrs Alcott was not physically injured in the alleged altercation.

“Police were told the 64-year-old male resident shoved the 51-year-old female resident during an argument before leaving the home,” a statement read.

Mr Alcott was released on bail by police over the alleged incident that took place in Caringbah South. He is subject to a set of standard bail conditions, including that he must not assault, threaten, stalk or harass Mrs Alcott, or destroy or damage any of her property.

The case is next listed in Sutherland Local Court on August 19.

Mr Alcott was physio during the golden era of Australian cricket, finishing up with the national team in 2006.

It is understood he met his wife on a trip to the UK with the team. She is British Australian and was a flight attendant before they married.

He was director of athletic performance for the South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team from 2006 to 2012, with his website citing him as “an integral part in the rebuild of the Rabbitohs from 2006/07 overseeing the Medical and Rehabilitation, and Strength and Conditioning Departments”.

He was also engaged by Academy Award winner Russell Crowe, co-owner of the Rabbitohs, to work on the set of his 2005 film Cinderella Man in Canada.

According to his website, Mr Alcott also worked with the St George Illawarra rugby league team as well as the Netball Sutherland Shire Netball Association and NSW Netball, the Sydney Swans AFL team and Athletics St George and Sutherland District Athletic.

Mr Alcott had not responded to calls for comment at the time of publication.
