Veteran broadcaster Alan Jones made a rare public appearance on Thursday night at a dinner held to celebrate Matt Canavan’s 10th anniversary in the Senate.
Jones performed MC and guest speaker duties at the casual event held at The Paddock restaurant near Yeppoon, Queensland.
Canavan’s mentor Barnaby Joyce and Sky commentator Graham Richardson turned out for the $45-a-head dinner with Joyce speaking. Also in attendance was Canavan’s wife Andrea and their children.
Having kept a low profile since returning from an extended two-month trip to the UK earlier this year, Jones made a splashy return to public life in maroon trousers, black jacket and splendid silver tie.
The broadcaster, who was last photographed in April visiting a delicatessen in Double Bay in tennis shorts and on a walking stick, has been off the air from conservative streaming platform ADH TV since the start of year while battling myriad health problems that doctors informed him could lead to a cardiovascular event.
Despite this poor prognosis, Jones maintains he is keen to get back behind a microphone. “I have every intention to returning to broadcasting … it is what I do,” he said in March.
