Erin Molan has revealed she “struggled” when she was dumped from the Continuous Call Team late last year.
Molan, who is now one third of 2dayFM’s The Breakfast Crew, was let go from 2GB after they failed to renew her contract because of COVID financial pressures.
While the talented journalist tells Sydney Confidential she was disappointed with that decision at the time, she now sees it as a blessing.
‘It’s only with the hindsight that I have now, that I realise this is what our industry is about. You look at things that didn’t work, opportunities that didn’t work out and things you might have been dumped from and without all that I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she says.
“If I was still at 2gb doing continuous call team, I wouldn’t be doing breakfast radio. While that was a really difficult time for me when that opportunity ended and I really struggled because I loved working with that team so much, that’s the nature of the beast and the business I work in. I’ve watched it happen to people around me and it happened to me. That’s life. But look at me now. I wouldn’t be where I am now without it.”
Molan, who on Wednesday will host Mercedes-Benz Sydney’s prestigious Women in Business luncheon, shares her story as a reminder that failures in careers are normal. “ We have to stop looking at negative things that happen to us as the end, because, generally it’s not” she says.
Aside from working on the improving breakfast radio show alongside Ed Kavalee and Dave Hughes, Molan still reads the weekend sport for Channel 9 and hosts The Sunday Footy Show.
She’s working seven days a week as well as being mum to two-year-old daughter Eliza, and running her own baby clothing label.
“I say it’s all going well but there are a lot of things I’m missing out on, a lot of things I’m not doing. I don’t think I will probably see a girlfriend till November,” she says.
“While everything I’m doing professionally and at home is wonderful, there are certainly sacrifices involved. But you’ve got to accept that otherwise you will be miserable. ”
