Celebrity chef Pete Evans says those wearing face masks to stop the spread of COVID-19 are weak.
In his latest rant to his 1.5 million Facebook followers, the former My Kitchen Rules judge claimed masks are a form of suppression.
Evans cited an analogy from American Dr Ben Tapper of filling one’s backpack with metaphoric boulders – like eating junk food or a toxic relationship – that diminish one’s health.
“(People who) put a mask on, that is another f***ing boulder in your backpack,” he said. “It is another sign of weakness, suppression, muzzling. It is up to you to start pulling that weight off your back. That is freedom, it is flexibility, it is a liberation. No one is going to come and take them out.”
Paleo diet advocate Evans has been increasingly vocal about his anti-vaccination stance.
He has widely criticised coronavirus measures taken around the world, referring to the global pandemic as a “plandemic” and “bullshit”.
In April he was fined more than $25,000 by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) over claiming a $15,000 ‘Bio Charger’ light machine had magical coronavirus eradication properties.
In his more than 40 minute Facebook Live video, Evans wore a red MAGA hat and stated that he supports US President Donald Trump and the slogan Make America Great Again.
“This plandemic has been the best thing that has ever happened to our government short term,” he said. “Long term, there will be huge ramifications for all involved. No one in the government is coming to save you. They are not intelligent enough. They haven’t got the vision. They are thinking short term.”
Evans also localised the statement to Make Australia Great Again.
“We have the ability to make Australia great again, we really do, collectively we do.”
It has been a big week for Evans, who has been spruiking an “off matrix” tribal community living property development near Byron Bay.
He also took on comedian Magda Szubanski for appearing in a new COVID-19 ad campaign.
Szubanski subsequently lashed out at Evans on Twitter after he slammed the star-studded TV ad, which is funded by the Victorian government, as “offensive”.
“Frankly I am sick to f**king death of skinny people (yes Pete Evans and your followers) assuming they are morally and spiritually superior,” Szubanski tweeted.
“#Fatshaming me & assertion that fat people have no place in discussion about public health not only insults me but also all the fat nurses, doctors, ambos etc who give so much. My Polish gran was fat & a nurse & she risked her life to hide Jews from the Nazis #fattiesunite.
