Gossip guru Perez Hilton has rubbished claims British reality star Charlotte Crosby is earning a $1 million pay packet for appearing on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
In fact, Hilton believes Crosby is one of the lowest paid contestants on the Channel 10 series that is in its final week. “Before I went in I saw articles stating Australians had no idea who this person is so I think she probably got paid less than the others.”
“My thinking is she (Crosby) wants more awareness in Australia so she would be willing to do it for less money just to have more exposure in Australia,” Hilton explained.
“She would have taken a lot less than some of the others.”
Earlier in the season, Ten claimed the $1 million figure to be “ludicrous”.
Hilton, 41, entered the jungle as an intruder and spent eight nights in the camp.
He believes veteran entertainer Rhonda Burchmore would be the highest paid celebrity.
“I would guess Rhonda is the highest paid person in that camp, even more than me, especially because I spent less time in there.”
As to his own earnings for appearing on the show, he added: “I didn’t earn anywhere near that ($1 million). I am a little bit crazy. I didn’t do it for the money. I did it because I thought it was going to be fun and hard and it ended up being everything I thought it was going to be.”
The hardest part of the show was the lack of food with celebrities surviving on basic rations of beans and rice and competing in challenges to score extra food.
Hilton lost 4.5kgs in his eight days competing.
“I foolishly was hoping and may have been optimistic that … I just thought they would give them more rice and beans,” he said. “Clearly they don’t because look how much weight I lost.”
Hilton is gunning for chef Miguel Maestre to win the competition and said he never expected to secure the crown himself.
“Going into all of this, I was very aware of my role,” he said. “I viewed this as I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! Australia season six featuring special celebrity guest Perez Hilton. I was a cameo. I am what they call stunt casting. I went in there and did my job.”
