The owners of country and western bar Jolene’s are set to go walking in Memphis and will now open up a blues and rock bar.
Husband and wife duo Simon and Lucy Rose-Hopkins are taking over jazz bar The Swinging Cat to open Lucille’s, a bar inspired by the musical streets of Memphis.
The pair will host a month-long pop-up from Wednesday, with the hope of making it a permanent fixture on Sydney’s bar and live music scene.
Named after B.B. King’s guitar Lucille, the bar holds a special place for the couple with Lucy given her name after her parents witnessed the legendary singer-songwriter perform in New York.
The decision to open a blues and rock-style bar came after a recent trip to the US and spending time on Memphis’ famous Beale Street.
“When we made the decision to focus on this style of music, within a day we’d booked all the spots,” Simon said.
The pair has turned Jolene’s into one of the Sydney’s most successful independent new bars in just under three years.
Country and western talent such as Australia’s Brad Cox and US singer Riley Green have been spotted there. The bar was also awarded Best Live Music venue at the recent Australian Liquor Industry Awards.
Lucille’s Memphis Blues and Rocks will open from Wednesday to Saturday at 44 King St, Sydney.
