HE’S been compared to Steve Irwin, Bear Grylls and Crocodile Dundee, but Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright just wants to be, well, Matt Wright.
The wildlife relocator who is the star of National Geographic’s globally popular Aussie production is still getting used to the attention.
“It’s a privilege to be regarded in that circle, the Steve Irwins, the Bear Gryllses, the Crocodile Dundees, but hey, what about Matt Wright?” he joked.
“I’m getting there.
You look at what people like Steve did in his time and he’s done so much for Australia and to be regarded in that same sense is very good.
“But I’m just some hopper from the Outback doing his show and it kind of takes away from what Steve actually was and what he achieved in his lifetime.”
Wright is gearing up to head overseas to promote season three of Outback Wrangler, which premieres on Foxtel’s National Geographic channel on December 6. It will air in more than 100 countries and he’s already booked to appear on almost every talk show worth mentioning when in the US in January.
“It’s pretty exciting, it’s definitely out of my comfort zone. We’ve worked for a few years on this project and, being season three now, it’s really starting to get its legs and the brand’s going really well, so we’ll grab it by the horns and away we go.”
