No rush: Turia Pitt puts movie plans on hold

Her incredible survival story and courageous recovery would make a heck of a biopic, but right now burns survivor, athlete, motivational speaker and mum Turia Pitt has other priorities.

Turia Pitt has kiboshed plans to make a movie based on her life.

The athlete and motivational speaker had been in talks with former Home and Away star Tammin Sursok about a new Australian biopic.

“That was on the cards but not at the moment,” Pitt told Confidential.

“It is not something that is at the top of my priority list. Every day, I am not like, ‘let’s try and get this movie made’. I am not doing that at all.

“Whether or not a film gets made, I don’t really think it is in my control.”

Not in her control?

“I think I would be (involved),” she said. “That would be really weird if someone made a movie and I just saw it on the TV. That would be quite strange.”

Pitt, 36, in 2011 was competing in a 100km ultra-marathon in Western Australian when she was caught in a large bush fire. She sustained burns to 65 per cent of her body.

Her story of survival and resilience saw Pitt become a prominent public speaker and author of three books to date.

A mother of two young sons, Pitt said she was focused on mum life, as well as writing another book that is a work in progress along the theme of “the mental load and how to solve that issue”.

She’s also a motivational speaker and teaches running to mums who want to ‘be fitter, run further and feel more confident’ with her Run with Turia program.

She is an ambassador for the upcoming HOKA Fly Run, that has previously been held in New York, London, Taipei, Jakarta and Bangkok.

With varying times and durations, it will be held in Sydney at Bennelong Lawn overlooking the Opera House on Saturday, September 23.

“If I go for a run, that is I guess a small part of my day that I am claiming as my own,” she said.

“If I think about the example that I want to teach my sons, it is that moving can be a tool. If you feel stressed or frustrated, you can go for a run and maybe by the end of that run, you will have worked things out.

“If you are feeling sad and anxious, maybe you join a sports team and you go out and connect with your mates.

Husband Michael Hoskin works as a helicopter pilot.

“It is really about survival at the moment, because Michael’s career is really thriving and I guess I am doing a lot of the mum duties,” she said.

“I am working on my next book, that occupies probably half the day and the other half is doing stuff with the running program coaching women.”
