Nine’s Today show reaches record low ratings with current line-up

The Today show’s ratings have hit an all-time low with the breakfast program receiving just 155,000 viewers on Friday. This comes as advertisers for Love Island are upset with the network after being promised ratings four times what they actually are.

The Today show has hit a record 2019 low, with Channel 9’s troubled breakfast show luring just 155,000 viewers on Friday.

The industry was initially shocked when less than 200,000 people tuned in for the first show with the new line-up of Georgie Gardner, Deborah Knight and Tom Steinfort.

Less than a month later, the ratings dropped even further with just 177,000 people tuning in on February 6.

However, Friday’s figure has, according to insiders, “been the nail in the coffin for the current crew”.

While the new 2020 on-air team is yet to be announced, there’s no doubt Nine executives are keen to establish a new and successful line-up.

This comes as advertisers on Nine’s reality TV show, Love Island, are said to be less than impressed with the network after they were promised the ratings would be four times what they actually are.

The reality dating program, now in its second season, lured just 281,000 viewers this Thursday, after it brought in 357,000 metro viewers for its second episode, dropping from 494,000 on its premiere.

“The lacklustre results have been the result of bad casting and the fact they decided to air the program on their primary channel as opposed to 9Go,” an insider said.
