THERE’S no stopping Nicole Kidman with the Aussie actor’s career continuing to skyrocket after she secured two huge new projects for her production company Blossom Films.
Just a day after it was announced Kidman had secured the rights to Big Little Lies’ author Liane Moriarty’s highly anticipated upcoming novel Nine Perfect Strangers, the 50-year-old has signed a new deal with Amazon that will see her create a television adaptation of the novel The Expatriates.
Kidman will be both star and executive producer on the project, based on Janice Y.K. Lee’s book that explores the relationships between a group of expatriate women living in Hong Kong.
Aussie screenwriter Alice Bell will write the script.
“I’m so thrilled about the Blossom-Amazon collaboration,” Kidman said in a statement.
“The Expatriates is just the beginning of our shared goal in making delicious stories with something meaningful to say about the world.”
Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke described Kidman as “a force of nature as both an actor and a producer”.
“(Nicole) understands the focus of bringing addictive, entertaining and compelling television to our customers as well as movies that will connect with film audiences,” Salke said.
The move comes after Kidman’s Blossom Films and Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories closed the deal for movie and TV rights to Nine Perfect Strangers.
Kidman will star in the project and also be executive producer, along with Per Saari for Blossom Films, while Papandrea will executive produce with Steve Hutensky for her Made Up Stories banner. Moriarty, best known for Big Little Lies, will also serve as executive producer.
It’s unknown at the time whether the book, which hits shelves in September, will be adapted for film or TV.
After the success of HBO’s Big Little Lies, which earned Kidman an Emmy and Golden Globe for her role, Moriarty’s material has been highly sought after in Hollywood.
“They are such talented, passionate people and I have no doubt that whatever they do with my Nine Perfect Strangers it will be brilliant,” Moriarty said.
“I’m honoured by their faith in this book. Even before I’d written ‘the end’ they believed in it and I just feel very lucky to have had them come into my life.”
Kidman can next be seen in Warner Bros’ Aquaman, as well as in Destroyer and Boy Erased She also recently finished production on The Goldfinch.
