KERRI-ANNE Kennerley is one of Australia’s rolled gold television icons, but when the industry wanted to honour her with a Logie she initially told them to “F*** off’’.
The Mornings With Kerri-Anne and Good Morning Australia star was inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame last year after celebrating 50 years in television.
That was after she gave them a piece of her mind.
“Two or three years before that, I did get the phone call saying ‘would you be good enough to accept the TV Week Hall of Fame Logie?’ ” the 64-year-old told The Daily Telegraph.
“And I’ve gone ‘no, F off, I’m not dead yet’.
“That’s a true story.”
Kennerley, speaking at an event announcing her as a new ambassador for Razzamatazz stockings, said her husband John was “appalled” at her response to the honour.
“He said ‘that’s just terrible’ and I said, ‘well, I’m not dead yet’ because you look at the Hall of Famers and a lot of them are,” she joked.
“But then you realise, I’m only the third woman (to be honoured) — there’s Ruth Cracknell, Noni Hazlehurst, and luckily my churlish behaviour was overlooked a couple of years later and they asked me again and I said ‘you betcha’.
“I was really, really happy.”
Kennerley said she was delighted to go “straight to Gold” on the Logies honourboard.
