Wolf Creek star and model scores Logies nomination for best supporting actor

IF only every career fell into place as perfectly as has that of model-turned-actor Elsa Cocquerel. She has scored a surprising Logie nomination for her first acting role in popular series.

How do you get nominated for a Logie?

IF only every career fell into place as perfectly as has that of model-turned-actor Elsa Cocquerel.

The Sydney-based beauty has already been nominated for a Logie award despite only landing her first major acting gig last year.

Cocquerel is nominated for best supporting actor for her role in Stan Original Wolf Creek and will go up against Wentworth’s Celia Ireland, Romper Stomper’s Jacqueline McKenzie, A Place To Call Home’s Jenni Baird and Safe Harbour’s Nicole Chamoun at next month’s ceremony.

Wolf Creek returns on Stan for Season 2

The nod came as a surprise for the 24-year-old model who only decided to focus on acting two years ago.

“I started modelling five years ago when I was fresh out of school and that all happened quickly for me,” she said.

“After three months of being with a modelling agency, they wanted to send me to LA where I pretty much did everything but runway modelling, to editorial, commercial and music videos.

“But acting has always been in my family. I started making movies in the backyard with my brother when we were kids and I have always been in love with acting. So recently I put a strong focus on it and started taking acting classes.”

And it seems she’s a natural, with Cocquerel, who is signed with Atelier Management, not only securing the role of hitchhiker Michelle in the Australian horror TV series, but being recognised by the local acting industry.

“I have been really lucky,” she said.

“Wolf Creek was my first job in Australia so I am still pinching myself. I got a message from a friend saying congratulations on your nomination.

“I genuinely had no idea. So I jumped online and saw my name against these other four actors and for me, that’s what I am so honoured by the fact I am up against the other women in my category.”
