Michael Pell new job running US TV therapist Dr Phil’s morning show

There’s been much speculation about what Michael Pell would do next, now we can reveal what the man once known as a ‘TV wunderkind’ is up to — and it’s not what we were expecting.

Almost one year after his departure from Seven, the next step for former Sunrise executive producer Michael Pell can be revealed.

Sunday Confidential can reveal the guy once branded a ‘TV wunderkind’ is working for Dr Phil in the US.

After conquering the world of morning television in Australia, Pell now has the US in his sights.

Confidential can exclusively reveal he’s been hired by talk show king Dr Phil to run his national morning show on his new network.

Merit Street is a television network launched by Dr Phil earlier this year that broadcasts on cable and streaming.

Pell was hired several months ago as executive producer of the network’s morning show, Morning On Merit Street.

While our calls to Pell — who was this week photographed partying with Kyle and Jackie O in Las Vegas — went unanswered on Saturday, two sources confirmed the new role.

Pell has taken a job with Dr Phil

Pell, who was often written about during his time as the EP of Sunrise, has been keeping a remarkably low profile and staying out of the spotlight since moving to the US in 2022.

The man responsible for Sunrise’s ratings dominance for more than a decade took on a development role at Seven in Los Angeles, before leaving at the end of last year.

While at Sunrise, Pell oversaw an extraordinarily successful period for the breakfast TV program — Australia’s No. 1 breakfast show — after taking the reins in 2010.

He is credited with helping the program, then anchored by Natalie Barr and David Koch, extend its lead against arch-rival Nine’s Today.

Pell moved to the US in April 2022 with his partner Daniel Burgess-Wise, who launched his acting career the same year.
