Former MasterChef contestant Sarah Todd has been cooking up a secret project with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Todd, who has two restaurants in India, met with the PM during his May visit to Sydney.
The Queensland born celebrity chef, who first visited India in 2014, had a 30-minute meeting with the leader.
“He spoke about what he hopes to do with [Indian] cuisine going forward and what he wants me to do next, and you’ll hear about it next year,” Todd told the The Daily Telegraph. “It’s incredibly surreal.”
It’s been a remarkable career for Todd who first featured on the reality TV cooking show in 2014 and returned in 2022, where she was runner up.
In November, her passion for Indian cuisine also led her to be named as an “Indian at Heart” in Elite’s list of 50 most Influential Indians.
She accepted the award at an event at the Statue of Liberty, the first of its kind in 17 years.
Todd said it was incredible to be acknowledged, but the event was held the day after Australia defeated India in the Cricket World Cup Final.
“I decided to not talk about cricket at all,” she jokes.
As well as working on a secret project with the Indian Prime Minister, Todd has created a sauce chilli range coined “Hot Toddy” alongside her brother, Matt Todd.
The brand is being sold at Harris Farm in Australia and Nature’s Basket, India’s largest grocery chain.
“The range is made in Queensland and inspired by my travels all over the world,” she said.
“Food is incredible like that. How it can bring people together and help tell their story.”
