And that’s it for Married At First Sight 2023. The last remaining loved up couple on the controversial reality TV dating show have called time on their relationship.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Tahnee Cook and Ollie Skelton broke up over recent weeks after giving romance its best shot.
“Sometimes love just doesn’t work,” Cook told the Daily Telegraph.
“Ollie is a great guy, we really gave it a shot and I wish him nothing but happiness. Unfortunately our love story didn’t have the happy ending we were both hoping for. I’m really thankful for what these last 16 months has taught me.”
MAFS sees people that don’t know each other paired as they get married and live life together. The big test comes when they have to decide whether or not to continue the relationship.
Cook and Skelton filmed the series in August 2022 with the series not going to air until earlier this year. They were one of the golden couples of the season and chose to continue the relationship in the real world when cameras stopped rolling.
“It is sad. It sucks, we’re both pretty disappointed but didn’t want to push something that is no longer working.”
Mutual break ups are often “harder to explain”, Cook added, because people want to know what went wrong. When the cause of the split is more along the lines of:“I don’t know if this is it.”
Skelton moved from Perth to Sydney, where Cook works in public relations and marketing.
Of the 12 couples that started the season, Mel and Layton stayed together for a few months but recently broke up also.
“Break ups are never easy but heartbreak is worth it in the pursuit of love,” Cook said. “I don’t live life with regrets. I am really happy we gave this relationship our best shot.”
Cook and Skelton will be both be spending some time with their families, in Melbourne and Perth respectively, before they regroup to figure out what to do with their shared lease in the New Year.
In her podcast, Chuffed with Tahnee Cook, she will detail more of the break-up in an episode to drop today.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better husband to be matched with and I am sad that things didn’t really work out on the outside,” she told her podcast listeners.
“Part of me feels embarrassed in a sense that it didn’t work out, in that I feel like I am letting people down, which is stupid to think but I feel like being in such a public relationship there are a lot of expectations on you.”
She continued: “Ultimately it kind of comes down to coming into the outside world and maybe our lives not really aligning fully and just certain things we want and goals aren’t always the same. That is okay, it is normal stuff you’d learn in the first year of a relationship.”
