Jetsetting superstar Aussie actor Margot Robbie has been welcomed back at Sydney Airport, touching down on home soil ahead of a Sydney red carpet appearance.
The Babylon star smiled and waved at photographers, conspicuously sans wedding ring as she strode through arrivals clutching a $4500 Prada handbag.
Robbie continues her round trip of Babylon premiere events on Monday, hitting the red carpet with co-star Diego Calva at The State Theatre just days after stepping out in a bold, billowing red Valentino gown at the London premiere.
The film and its leading lady have already courted critics and controversy. Babylon slumped at the box office in its opening weekend in the US, making $US3.5 million over the Christmas period.
Meanwhile, an apparently unscripted kiss between Robbie’s character Nellie LaRoy and Brad Pitt’s character Jack Conrad provoked outrage from commentators who suggested if Pitt had ‘snuck in’ a kiss with Robbie instead, the backlash would be far greater.
Robbie was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Babylon, but lost the Best actor in a Musical or Comedy award to Everything Everywhere All At Once star Michelle Yeoh.
She stepped out on the red carpet at the 80th annual Golden Globe awards in her familiar Chanel, donning a peach halternecked gown reminiscent of 1920s Hollywood, the era in which Babylon is set.
Babylon, a tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, traces the rise and fall of an ensemble cast of early Hollywood characters. Robbie is not the only Aussie in the all-star cast, with Samara Weaving playing Nellie’s rival Constance Moore.
32-year-old Robbie will also soon debut the highly anticipated Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, in which she plays the titular character and one of the most famous female icons of all time.
Barbie is scheduled to be released overseas on July 21. Babylon is in cinemas from Tuesday Jan 17.
