MARRIED At First Sight bride Ashley Irvine has broken her silence over her date with millionaire fellow-contestant Justin Fischer at one of Sydney’s priciest restaurants.
The couple were spotted at Quay at The Rocks just days ago — a place Irvine says she wasn’t aware was high-end.
The blonde finally lifted the lid on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa breakfast radio show this morning, claiming her dinner with Fischer was simply a friendly catch up.
But Fischer had a different take on the relationship, telling Confidential the pair caught up multiple times in Sydney, dining at the Park Hyatt and Double Bay.
“Watch this space,” he said of their growing bond.
“I’ll be careful what I say out of respect for Ash and I don’t want to say too much, but Ashley and I did get on really well and possibly could have been a good match.”
He said the pair have stayed in touch since the show and “do keep in contact”.
“We did form a close bond in the experiment. She’s a flight attendant so she’s in the travel industry, she travels as much as I do which is perfect for me, but we definitely bonded inside the experiment and have stayed in touch.”
Irvine had a different tune today after she remained adamant on radio that she and Fischer were not together.
“No it wasn’t a date — Justin and I are really close, like we saw every week but yeah of course I’m going to catch up with him,” she said on air today.
“Justin was just feeling down in the dumps so we went out to dinner.”
When asked whether she would ever date Fischer, Irvine responded: “No I can’t do that because then I’d be a hypocrite, won’t I?
“No we’re just mates I’m friends with all the guys in the experiments.
“Guys, I’m so single. Feel free to set me up with whoever you’ve got, like I am open for it. Find me a good one please.
“We’re close friends but I’m not going to date someone in the experiment — there’s a million other guys in Australia, I’m not going to go for someone in the experiment and cause another drama.”
Fischer, who runs soft serve and frozen yoghurt machine business Brullen, was portrayed as a workaholic on the show, even hustling for business while on his honeymoon with Carly in Vanuatu.
“The wedding and honeymoon were the most accurate portrayal of my character the whole show,” he said.
“But they kept showing me not talking like I’m a bloody mute or something, I’m a salesperson, I don’t shut up. I’m always talking, but they always show me sitting there off in my own world.
“I’ve got to stop thinking about it, because it wrecks my head. “
Fischer thinks his portrayal as being withdrawn and uninterested was a deliberate decision by the editors, who changed the way his relationship with his wife Carly appeared on screen after paparazzi photos of Carly with Troy spoiled the outcome of the show.
“After the photos of Troy and Carly were released, it derailed our relationship and I believe they did some re-editing of it. We had a good story for a lot of it, we did some really cool stuff but it wasn’t shown at all, they decided to guide our story in a direction where the audience knew it wasn’t going to work out,” he said.
“We had ups and downs, but they only showed the downs.”
Despite being portrayed as a “mute”, Fischer said he learned a lot out of the show that he will be able to apply in further relationships.
Yesterday the photo of Irvine and Fischer, whose TV partners Troy Delmege and Carly Bowyer are now in a relationship, emerged online.
It cames after Wednesday night’s bombshell episode aired where Irvine heard Fischer tell the other grooms during a “boys’ night” that he was attracted to Irvine.
The partner swapping element of the show has made it a ratings winner for Nine.
On air it was also revealed that Tracey Jewel, who dumped villain Dean Wells, had moved on with fellow-contestant Sean Thomsen, who was partnered with Blair Rachael.
