Lincoln Younes thinks other women should have won GQ Man of the Year over Kim Kardashian

Actor Lincoln Younes said it’s “really progressive” GQ named a woman as their Man of the Year, but is adamant there are more deserving winners.

‘Taking the piss’: Kim Kardashian named GQ Man of the Year

The naming of Kim Kardashian as one of US GQ’s Men of the Year has whipped the internet into a frenzy, but Australian males can rest easy knowing their top prizes won’t go to the other team next month.

“I definitely think naming a woman as man of the year is really progressive and a great thing,” Last King of the Cross star Lincoln Younes told The Daily Telegraph.

“I don’t know how I feel about Kim though. I think there are some other women I would put first.”

Younes has diplomatically summarised the backlash to Kardashian’s cover ‘man’ status, as the winner of American GQ’s Tycoon of the Year gong.

The 31-year-old actor and model Victoria Lee will be VIP guests of Boss at the Australian GQ’s 2023 Men of the Year Awards in association with BOSS on December 6, when they are hosted at Bondi Pavilion for the first time.

Since 1996, the franchise has honoured the year’s most culturally definitive male figures.

“We will host a mix of high-profile local and international names from across the arts, entertainment, fashion, sport, music and more; figures who have not only impressed us with everything they have achieved over the past 12 months, but inspired us too,” GQ Australia editor Jake Millar said.

Key guests will include musician Briggs, and actors Will Lodder, Alex Fitzalan, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Adam Demos.

The awards, despite the name, are not always strictly gendered. By comparison though, Elvis actor Olivia DeJonge was GQ Australia’s only 2022 Woman of the Year. While the MOTY included Baz Luhrmann, PM Anthony Albanese, Russell Crowe, Murray Bartlett, DJ Fisher and Dylan Alcott.

Although our 2023 nominees are yet to be announced, Younes is a strong contender for his star turn as Sydney nightclub boss John Ibrahim in Last King of the Cross.

The second season of the smash series, which begins filming in January, “is to do with the raunchier, edgier late-nineties era of Oxford Street when John took over a lot of the prominent nightclubs.”

“It’s going to be darker and more ambitious,” Younes said.

Kardashian’s MOTY cover has been described as gimmicky and ‘unprecedented’, although only the former is true for the US publication.

Jennifer Aniston was actually the first woman to appear on the cover of GQ’s Men of the Year issue in 2005. American MOTY covers have also gone to Mila Kunis, Rihanna, Gal Gadot, Serena Williams, Jennifer Lopez, and Megan Thee Stallion.
