Kyle Sandilands causes public outrage yet again

Kyle Sandilands has apologised for making offensive comments about the Virgin Mary after thousands of people called for him to be sacked yesterday.

The controversial radio shock jock, who has been playing it safe for months, came under fire from religious groups after a provocative video was shared on his KIIS FM Instagram site where the 48-year-old joked that the Virgin Mary wasn’t actually a “virgin” at all.

He described Mary as a “liar” who got knocked up “behind a camel shed”.

He was later and slammed by thousands of people online, prompting executives to delete the social media video.

Sandilands told The Daily Telegraph he was sorry for the comments.

“I’m sorry if I offended anyone with my comments,” Sandilands said.

“Everyone is entitled to their own religious beliefs and I’m fully supportive of that right.”

Christians and Muslims were yesterday being urged to attend an “interfaith peaceful protest” outside KIIS FM’s Macquarie Park studios on Monday.

The protest is being organised by social media account ‘Lebomemes101” which boasts more than 500,000 followers.

“I’m just using my platform as a voice for the community. It’s my duty to do what I’m doing and I’m all for peace but they’re pushing the limit,” the man, who asked not to be named. said.

“If Kyle wants to have a private meeting with myself and some members of the church to sort it out, than I am more than happy to do so.”

He said when former Wallaby Israel Folau posted a religious quote his contract was torn up, yet the same immediate response hasn’t happened towards Sandilands.

Security and a police car were spotted outside the Macquarie Park radio studio earlier this afternoon, with reports Sandilands had gone into hiding after thousands condemned him for the inflammatory comments made on air.

Thousands of people are adding their names to an online petition calling for radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands to be taken off air over a controversial video in which he describes the Virgin Mary as a liar who simply got knocked up “behind a camel shed”.

“A man like Kyle does not deserve any airtime on Australia’s “number one” FM radio station,” the change.org petition states.

“Regardless of your disbelief and atheism, you have offended two of the largest religions in the world.

“Enough is enough, this is the last time we will allow a mockery of our faith,” the post states.

As at 5.30pm on Friday, it had almost 8000 signatures.

Earlier, Christians and Muslims around the world united to condemn Sandilands over the inflammatory video posted online.

The KIIS FM host was featured alongside co-star Jackie-O Henderson in the video posted to the station’s social media accounts on Thursday.

Listeners were quick to slam Sandilands and the video, eventually forcing KIIS FM to remove the footage.

“I thought Mary was his (Jesus Christ’s) girlfriend but apparently it was the mother,” Sandilands said in the video.

“And the mother lied obviously and told everyone ‘Nah I got pregnant by a magical ghost’. Bullshit.

“Someone chock-a-blocked her behind the camel shed.

“You might believe everything that’s written down 2000 years ago to be absolutely accurate and good on you, you’re dumb. Dumb as dog shit.”

A separate and unrelated video later posted by KIIS FM was also removed after angry listeners began publishing their criticism on any posts they could find.

Fury at Sandilands’ comments reached as far as Lebanon where Sydney man Charlie Bakhos posted a response that quickly went viral.

The video, posted about 9.30pm AEST, attracted more than 16,000 views in just 12 hours as Bakhos issued a call to arms.

Bakhos is the administrator of the Christian Lives Matter Facebook page.

“This is a message to Kyle Sandilands from Lebanon. I’m sitting here at the top of Our Lady of Harissa,” Bakhos said.

“You offended Christians, Muslims, people of faith. You called the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ names, you accused her of sex, you said some disgusting things.

“Your words are just words and what you don’t understand is there are a lot of fence-sitting Christians out there and you’ve angered them and pushed them off the fence towards getting closer to Christ.

“We will bring the prayer to you, prayer groups and thousands upon thousands to your doorstep, to your studio, until you repent and change your ways.”

Bakhos ended his response by calling on people to phone the KIIS FM studios during Sandilands’ Friday show to voice their anger.

Australian Islamic identity Steve Dabliz took to Instagram to vent his fury at Sandilands.

“Kyle and Jackie O you’ve done it again. All that for ratings. You didn’t only offend the Christian and Catholic religions, you’ve offended 1.6 billion Muslims around the world,” Dabliz said.

“We’re outraged. If that means we have to protest peacefully outside your radio station we’ll do it. We demand a public apology. You need to come out and apologise, not just to the Christians and Catholics, but to us Muslims as well.

“In the Quran we have whole chapter about Mary. How dare you insult her, how dare you make mockery of her.”

KIIS FM has been contacted for comment.
