A Cairns cafe manager has caused a media frenzy, claiming Kim Kardashian visited his cafe, however it turns out she hasn’t been in Australia for a decade.
The rumour Kardashian was in Far North Queensland has put the Botanica Cafe Bar Kitchen in Edge Hill, Cairns, on the map for all the wrong reasons and resulted in multiple Sydney-based paparazzi dropping everything and jetting to the sunny state.
The ABC is among the numerous media companies which reported the famous influencer was in the country, alongside her boyfriend Pete Davidson, who is shooting a film in Cairns.
However, it turns out the manager of Botanica Cafe Bar Kitchen spun a web of lies and the mother-of-four is in fact in LA with her children.
“I am so annoyed,” one pap told Saturday Confidential. “There’s quite a bit happening in Sydney at the moment, so I have completely wasted my time and money.”
Also fuelling the rumour was the fact Kardashian shared a number of loved-up snaps of herself with Davidson at an undisclosed location, which could have been tropical Far North Queensland, however turned out to be Tahiti.
Matt Black, the manager of Botanica Cafe Bar Kitchen claimed to ABC Far North that Kardashian, 41, and Davidson, 28, dined at his eatery on Wednesday – sparking a media frenzy and hunt for the pair.
Mr Black spun an elaborate tale about how Kardashian and Davidson’s security team asked cafe staff to place their phones on the counter for the duration of the pair’s date so no one could take photos of them while they were dining.
“We had to put our phones out on the counter,” he claimed, adding that the security detail also requested any CCTV footage remain private.
“There was just me and my barista and to be honest, he didn’t know who they were. He’s really out of the loop with that sort of stuff,” Mr Black claimed.
Someone from the cafe which is responsible for the fib was still perpetuating the storyline on Friday, sharing an Instagram story showing television crews assembling on the street outside, writing: “Chasing that scoop!”
It turns out Saturday Night Live star Davidson is in Australia filming his new movie Wizards! on his own.
The film also stars Franz Rogowski, Orlando Bloom and Naomi Scott.
