If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to attend the Logies after-party, wonder no more.
Karl Stefanovic, as you’ve never seen him before and perhaps never will again, has given us a glimpse in a video clip for a reimagining of Islands In The Stream.
The Today breakfast host has shot the bizarre video ‘no one saw coming’ with Keli Holliday, the stage persona of Abbie Chatfield’s boyfriend, Adam Hyde.
“Karl and I have a long-lasting bromance,” explained Hyde, best known for his work with Peking Duk.
“I covered Nick Cave’s classic ‘Into My Arms’ and he reached out, saying he was prepared to do a duet together. I shared this sentiment online to see if the people shared that same yearning for a Keli-Karl duet and the response was an overwhelming ‘yes’.
“What you hear and see here is raw, unadulterated fun. A gift from a man on his 50th birthday. That’s how giving Karl is. Enjoy it. Revel in it. We hope you love it as much as we loved making it.”
The strange glam rock pop clip sees Stefanovic shirtless with a Madonna-esque crucifix necklace jamming to the house remix of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers classic, Islands In The Stream.
The not-so-fresh take on the iconic country pop classic is at times uncomfortable to watch, which is clearly the point.
Father of four Stefanovic wears eyeliner, showing off his dad bod and dance moves as he gyrates in front of a psychedelic rainbow screen.
The clip premiered on Today this morning with Keli Holiday to perform live at BIGSOUND Festival in Brisbane tonight.
He kicks off his national tour in Melbourne on September 12 and plays Sydney’s The Lansdowne on September 20.
Stefanovic reportedly celebrated his milestone 50th with a lavish party in Europe following the Paris Olympics. On the day of his actual birthday (August 12), Stefanovic’s mum, Jenny, joined him in studio.
Sister-in-law, Today Extra host, Sylvia Jeffreys referred to Stefanovic as “such a treasure”.
“You’re such a beautiful man and you’re a beautiful friend and a beautiful brother and all of us as your colleagues as well, have the rare privilege of seeing the way you can really connect and bring the best out in people, not just the people you interview on the television every day, but the people you work with every day,” she said.
“You bring out the best and you show us all how to commit and be really excellent, you’re just a wonderful person, you drive us mad and you’ve made me do things I deeply regret, but we love you with all our hearts.”
