The billionaire argy-bargy over some of the country’s blue chip watering holes continues as Yamba’s famed Pacific Hotel comes into the crosshairs of some of Sydney’s “bar barons”.
It’s understood the picturesque cliffside pub, which hasn’t changed hands in close to four decades, is now the subject of a fierce bidding war between Laundy Hotels scion Stu Laundy and his regular sparring partner Justin Hemmes.
Fresh from his purchase of the only pub in Lennox Head last week for $40 million, it’s believed Laundy’s spending spree has veered south, with The Pacific Hotel well and truly on his shopping list.
Hemmes, too, has expressed an interest in the stunning hotel, which is regarded by most real estate experts as being one of — if not the — most magnificent pubs in the country, with 360-degree views and a virtual town monopoly.
No word yet on a sale, however Confidential is reliably informed the asking price is hovering in the region of $50 million.
No doubt that has to be tempting. After all, the pub last changed hands in 1990 for a “mere” $2.45 million.
Both Laundy and Hemmes declined to comment.
