Luxury car aficionado John Laws has offloaded his Rolls Royce Phantom for new wheels.
The top radio broadcaster was photographed behind the wheels of his Mercedes Maybach, which he took ownership of on Monday.
Laws, 84, has long been a fan and collector of high end vehicles and has several in the garage at his Woolloomooloo home.
Confidential understands Laws wasn’t in the market for a new car but stopped by Mercedes-Benz Sandersons Rushcutters Bay on Friday for a look around.
Five minutes sitting in the front seat of the two-tone anthracite blue metallic and aragonite silver metallic sealed the deal for the 2SM radio host.
His only question at the time was, “can I afford it?”
The car is identical to the launch vehicle that Mercedes had at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and is valued at around $500,000.
Wednesday marked his first drive in the vehicle as Laws made his way from his Woolloomooloo home to his Pyrmont radio station headquarters.
Laws famously sold off his large collection of cars, many of which he rarely drove, in the early 2000s.
On top of the new Maybach, Laws car collection includes two Bentley’s — a two-door and a Mulsanne — as well as a Rolls Royce convertible and a Lexus he has owned for several years.
In February Laws’ much loved wife Caroline, whom he called “the princess”, lost her battle to cancer.
