Vogue Australia celebrates 60th birthday

Jessica Mauboy has backed her Vogue’ing skills at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach.

The pop singer joined more than 250 eager dancers and non-dancers in a Vogue’ing flash mob to the classic Madonna track as part of the magazine’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

“Celebrating these stories, I am very proud to be a part of it,” Mauboy told Confidential, wearing Australian designer Zimmerman. “This is about paving pathways. You’ve got young kids, boys and girls, teenagers and adults just loving life and living their best lives. That is the beauty of vogue’ing.”

Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann led the early morning festivities with comedian Celeste Barber also taking part.

“Young women and men frankly want us to stand for things,” McCann said. “In this day and age, brands must stand for something and the consumer wants to know and they will call you out if you don’t. The future for Vogue is around values and how we best move that conversation forward. That is what we’ve done with the incredible vogue’ing team, dancers and the residents of Bondi Beach, we have brought them together to celebrate. We are not ones to sit on one sideline or the other.”

The Vogue’ing event is part of a larger schedule of events to celebrated the magazine’s six decades in Australia.

McCann explained that Vogue editors from across the globe met earlier this year in Paris to focus on the future direction of the prestigious title.

“We came up with Vogue values that we all agreed to globally and celebrating creativity, innovation, diversity, inclusion and obviously sustainability is a big thing for us too,” McCann explained. “These are all things that we agreed to push forward the conversation around and this is a good way to do that in uniquely Australian way.”
