When Jessica Mauboy recorded her last single Little Things, it was definitely not a reference to the size of the rock now adorning her hand.

The singer was presented with the chunky 1.5-carat Mondial diamond white gold engagement ring by her boyfriend Themeli Magripilis in a “fairytale” proposal on a Greek island beach this month.

Giddy-in-love Mauboy vividly recalls the moment when Magripilis got down on one knee.

“It was pretty much paradise,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“It was that moment of wow, that this was actually happening. I flashed back to all of our time together, he started to go red in the face and welled up in the eyes. That was it, I said yes and I cried.”

Magripilis, who works in construction, has been a grounding force in Mauboy’s whirlwind life as her career has gone from strength to strength since the pair met on a dance floor when she was 18.

“When you do love someone, you want to protect them and you want to take care of them and vice versa,” Mauboy said.

“It has been quite magical. It has been a fairytale for me. You want to spend the rest of your life with this person, doing all of the fun things, going through the ups and downs, doing what you love and being respected by it. That flashed through my head when he proposed.”

Mauboy said her fiance does not care about celebrity or fame.

“I respect that and love that we don’t share the same industry and we can come home into our safe zone and make it all about us in the moment, cooking, chilling and watching movies.”

The 30-year-old has a lot to celebrate this week with the release of her critically acclaimed fourth studio album, Hilda.

The album is named after her late grandmother, after whom she received her middle name, and her next single is titled Selfish.

“There are moments where I have been selfish,” she said of the song.

“Like when I wasn’t able to see (fiance) Them for whatever reason and all I wanted was to be with him.

“This is purely about passionately wanting to be around people that I loved and not getting that opportunity but trying to find ways and that was to be selfish.”

Looking ahead, the question now is when the couple will wed.

“I haven’t much thought about the date,” said Mauboy, who is nominated for two ARIA Awards next month, for best video and female artist of the year for Little Things.

“We are just living in the moment.”
