Jesinta Franklin doesn’t have any answers about whether she and Lance “Buddy” Franklin will be moving to Queensland, but says they will make a decision at the end of the year.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph at the celebratory AFLW Sydney Derby breakfast, the successful model, businesswoman, and author said, “Bud’s recent statement is true to his word.”
“We really don’t know what’s happening at the end of the year.”
With Buddy’s Sydney Swans AFL contract still yet to be signed, the rumour mill has been churning with talk the couple are set to sell their home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to move closer to family in the Sunshine State.
Recently, Buddy said he would put all contract talks on hold to focus on his footy for the remainder of the season.
“There are some big decisions to be made,” Jesinta continued.
“He’s been playing for 17 years. “He doesn’t know what he’s going to do, and (the league) has given him the breathing space he deserves to make that decision.”
Adding that for now, she’s not making a career move into player management.
Jesinta completed her AFL Players’ Association’s accreditation in July, but said she doesn’t have a specific goal, or job in mind. “I’m always looking at expanding my professional capabilities and my understanding. I have a husband whose business I helped manage for the last 9 years, but I don’t intend to manage players at this point.
“It’s a maybe for the future, but at this stage, I’m just focused on being a mum.”
And speaking of, she adds the success of the day is not having food on her clothing, with Buddy “taking the (parenting) reins” on his day off.
Their 2-year-old daughter, Tullulah, and one-year-old son Rocky, have footy in their blood. “They see anything red and white and go ‘Dada dada!’” Jesinta enthused.
“I watched the first AFLW game with my daughter – she watched the first quarter because it was on her bedtime – and I remember her telling me: ‘Mum, did you see the girls kicking the footy?!’”
“And I didn’t think that at that age she would notice, or it would have any impact – but it does. Womens’ sport is incredible. It’s inspiring a new generation to chase dreams and goals that maybe they thought weren’t attainable.”
“We will encourage (our kids) to do whatever they want in life, but obviously they’re going to have a pretty good coach in Bud. So we’ll just see what happens.”
The GSW Giants will play their historic first clash against the AFLW Sydney Swans at the SCG this Saturday.
