Is Woollahra’s famous Victor Churchill butchery packing up and joining Neil Perry in Double Bay?

It’s a butcher store like no other: even Oprah has visited “the most beautiful shop in the world”. But Victor Churchill might not be on Queen Street in wealthy Woollahra for much longer.

Is another big name food figure moving to Double Bay?

Following in the footsteps of veteran Neil Perry, who has made the Eastern Suburbs suburb the home of his restaurant empire, the owner of famed Victor Churchill butchery might be following suit.

Anthony Puharich is the owner of Victor Churchill, which has been on Queen Street Woollahra since 2009 and which the late chef Anthony Bourdain called, “the most beautiful butcher shop in the world.”

Puharich, who named the butcher in honour of his father Victor, has been spotted in Double Bay with property development group Fortis.

Fortis are responsible for developing the building’s Perry’s Margaret is in.

The sighting comes after it was announced the current building in which Victor Churchill is a tenant is up for sale, with price hopes of $10 million plus.

Television queen Oprah Winfrey visited the butcher in 2010 when she filmed her two shows at the Sydney Opera House.

Victor Churchill is an institution: the oldest continually-operating butchery in Australia, opened in 1876.

It comes as Perry as transformed Double Bay.

As well as running Margaret, Next Door and Baker Bleu, Perry opened Cantonese restaurant Song Bird and basement bar Bobbie’s last week.

Perry said his decision to move into the area was because of it’s mix of residents and businesses

“It’s a village,” he said.

The Daily Telegraph reached out to Puharich for comment.
