Inside the life of Sophie Monk and her husband Josh Gross

From taking photos of fans to supporting Sophie Monk’s career, Josh Gross reveals the reality of being married to one of Australia’s most beloved celebrities.

We call the women supporting their athletic boyfriends WAGs — but what do we call the men behind our famous female celebrities?

It’s a question Sophie Monk’s husband Josh Gross says deserves his own label, as he proudly calls himself his wife’s “biggest cheerleader.”

The couple who tied the knot in 2022, have largely kept their relationship out of the public eye, living a laid-back life on The Central Coast when they’re not travelling for Monk’s ever-growing TV commitments.

“It’s been over seven years now, and we’re still in our sort of little honeymoon bubble up there,” Gross told Confidential.

“It’s lovely, just the two of us and our two golden retrievers now.”

Gross, who comes from a medical and robotics background, stepped away from his job about a year ago to fully support Monk’s career, and he couldn’t be happier about it.

“I’m a cheerleader, which is real fun for me,” he said.

“Soph has been doing what she’s doing for over 25 years now … I’m sort of behind the scenes, and it works really well for us. I think it would be extremely difficult for couples that are sort of both in the limelight.”

And while Monk fronts red carpets and TV sets, including her newest gig hosting the Love Island USA after-show, Gross is usually in the background.

He has partnered with Samsung to launch its new Galaxy S25 Edge, designed to make getting the perfect shot a little easier.

“There’s a lot of pressure when you’re photographing one of the most beautiful women in the world,” he said.

“Fans don’t often even know that I’m the husband. They just sort of start jamming their phones in my hand, and I’ll just stand there for 10 minutes and take photos.”

While celebrity partners are often scrutinised in the public eye, Gross revealed he’s enjoyed nothing but positive experiences.

“I’m lucky that Soph is so loved … people come up to her, they always leave that interaction feeling better about themselves, because she’s just really generous that way.”

The pair live a world away from the glitz and glamour when they’re home, dividing their time between gaming sessions, gardening and dog walks.

“We game a lot. Surprisingly, Soph is actually an exceptional gamer,” he said.

“You probably wouldn’t look at her and think this woman is incredible on the Xbox.”

And when they’re not travelling for work or behind controllers, the couple are soaking up their version of married life.

“We’re sort of living our honeymoon lifestyle at the moment,” Gross said.

“I don’t know how long we’ll get to do that, but we’re loving it right now.”
