Host Crowe’s dramatic weight loss the talk of AACTA awards night

Russell Crowe’s weight loss sparked buzz at the AACTA Awards with industry insiders estimating he shed over 10kg. See what they were saying.

Russell Crowe’s dramatic weight loss was the subject of much chatter at the AACTA Awards on Friday.

The Aussie Oscar winner hosted the lavish soiree at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast, and while most talent walked the red carpet, he understandably prepared for his official duties backstage.

When on stage, Confidential overheard several prominent industry figures in the industry noting Crowe’s significant weight loss that one estimated to be in excess of 10 kilograms since December.

“I am not sure how he’s done it but that is a lot of weight,” the observer noted.

“I know he has a film coming up, maybe it is for that.”

Ten TV personality Angela Bishop also showed off her weight loss, with the 57-year-old flaunting her new slimmed down figure in a black gown.

She has previously credited her weight loss with giving up her sugar-free energy drink addiction.

Crowe, 60, is working on sports action film, Beast in Me, which he wrote and will star in.

Daniel MacPherson will be seen as an out of work MMA fighter alongside Crowe as his veteran trainer.

Crowe meanwhile did a stellar job of hosting, perfectly reflecting on the work of greats of the industry while looking to the future.

While the Logies and ARIA Awards are usually a drawn out affair, organisers got the schedule right by keeping it short and snappy with the right amount of diverse talent across film and tv.

The after-party at HOTA was one of the best Confidential has ever attended. Several breakout spaces catering to different music tastes ensured everyone was satisfied.

That included the cast of MasterChef and Heartbreak High bopping away to the guilty pleasures of Client Liaison.

Outside in the smoking area, model Noah Tumataroa took cooling off a little too seriously when he took his jacket off to reveal a naked torso. Sure, with that body, why wouldn’t you show it off but in a venue full of superstars, it was a questionable move.

The highlight for Confidential was the Karaoke bar, where everyone let their hair down and stars of Colin from Accounts were seen belting out some bangers from Justin Rosniak’s take on John Mellencamp’s Hurt So Good to Genevieve Hegney’s Tainted Love. Radio host Mitch Churi gave an impressive rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive.

The Gold Coast meanwhile is heaving with celebrities right now given the amount of Hollywood productions shooting here.

Confidential bumped into Rita Ora, who is filming Voltron. Steve Zahn, who is shooting Anaconda, was also spotted getting out a car at his hotel, carrying a large case of plastic bottled water. Someone needs to tell the guy he can drink tap water here!

Also shooting Anaconda, Jack Black was seen picking up UberEats from his hotel lobby on Friday night.
