Luxury lingerie brand Honey Birdette has released its first loungewear collection and there isn’t a tracksuit in sight. Instead it’s a lush collection of electric blue, black and blush silk camisoles and shorts, which founder Eloise Monaghan wants you to wear out.

“It was inspired by the elegance of the French Riviera, and our intention is for it to be worn as outerwear,” she said.

“I can see these pieces being worn everywhere from a festival to an elegant restaurant, from New York City to Monaco.”

Monaghan said rather than be inspired by the pandemic, the range was designed to cater for women who want more coverage from the brand, which recently celebrated it’s 15th birthday with a champagne-soaked party in New York.

“I think that‘s a customer that we probably haven’t been reaching.

“She’s a customer who doesn’t want pieces that are as bold and strappy as a lot of our styles.

“We wanted to create something high-fashion and directional for that woman who doesn‘t want to be wearing a corset and suspenders while she’s making coffee.”

Monaghan said she couldn‘t believe the brand, which earlier this year was acquired by Playboy’s parent company for $US333 million, was 15.

“It‘s gone quickly, but we’ve come a long way in that time. Who would’ve thought this little unknown brand from Australia would take off like it has?” she said.

“Then to do the deal with Playboy and to be involved with them has been incredibly exciting.”

Playboy’s parent company, PLBY Group Inc, acquired the Australian label in June for $US333 million.

“We‘re also working on a Honey Birdette coffee table book that will look back at past campaigns and our history so far,” she said.

Monaghan has just returned to the US after scouting for store locations in London and Paris, but will be back in Australia for Christmas.
