Last week it was St Mary’s Cathedral; this week it’s St Mary Magdalene Church in Rose Bay – where will Mark Wahlberg’s ecclesiastical tour of Sydney take the Hollywood star next?

A devout Catholic, the The Departed star thrilled fans after attending evening mass on Saturday.

He is in town shooting the Shane Black-directed Play Dirty, which is based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker crime fiction books that were written under the pseudonym Richard Stark.

It came a week after Wahlberg shared a video message to his more than 29 million Instagram followers.

“Happy Sunday everybody, stay prayed up, God Bless,” he said, blessing himself as he made a sign of the cross on his chest.

On both occasions, Wahlberg wore his athleisure brand MUNICIPAL.

One place we won’t be seeing Wahlberg, in black socks that is, would be as he hits rounds at the NSW Golf Club in La Perouse.

Putting on an Australian accent in another social media video, Wahlberg said: “See the socks, not allowed on the golf course in Australia believe it or not. Some courses you are required to wear a white sock. What?”

Wahlberg has long championed his Catholic beliefs and has even been reported to attend mass twice on Sundays. He has stated that his “faith is the most important thing” and “puts things into perspective”.

Meanwhile, Wahlberg’s film is expected to see him based in Sydney for a few months.

Robert Downey Jr was originally on board to play the lead in the production for Amazon. Dermot Mulroney, Rosa Salazar, Tony Shalhoub and LaKeith Stanfield are also attached to the project that is based out of Sydney’s Disney Studios in Moore Park.

The film tells the story of Parker, a professional thief who, after being doublecrossed and left for dead, takes on the biggest heist of his career.

There are 24 novels in Westlake’s series with several other movies already released based on the stories. They include Point Blank in 1967, Slayground in 1983 and Payback in 1999.

Father of four Wahlberg is one of the biggest name actors in Hollywood thanks to film roles in the likes of The Fighter and The Departed, for both of which he was nominated for Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. He has several major films in the works, including The Six Billion Dollar Man and Arthur the King.
