The eldest Hemsworth has opened up on his challenges as a parent while shooting in Byron Bay, revealing he has days where he thinks his “children are aliens” and wants nothing to do with them.

Actor Luke Hemsworth believes men simply don’t talk enough about their emotions.

It is part of the reason he signed up to star in new Aussie film, Bosch & Rockit, a road movie about a father and son running from the law.

“I have had to learn to be expressive,” father-of-four Hemsworth told The Daily Telegraph.

“It is something that gets easier I think as you go along. It was never okay to be emotional as a bloke. I feel like it is changing.

“There is an inherent attitude that men should be men and that we don’t feel sad and doubtful and vulnerable and all that stuff.”

Bosch & Rockit is one of a number of productions shooting in and around Byron Bay, which has defied the COVID odds when the Hollywood industry is shut down.

Starring alongside Hemsworth is Isabel Lucas, whom he has known for nearly two decades, as well as Leeanna Walsman, Heather Mitchell and Martin Sacks.

“This is a really nice exploration of relationships,” the Westworld star said. “It is a man and his son and they are both having to come to terms with expressing their emotions and communication.”

He added: “I have days where I think my children are aliens, I want nothing to do with them. Part of that is admitting that that is okay as well. It doesn’t make me love them less but also sometimes I can’t help but think, what I am doing is affecting them negatively. There are a lot of layers here that we are trying to cover and I think that is why this film is so attractive.”

Lucas has known Hemsworth for around 16 years, having starred alongside and dated his younger Hollywood star brother, Chris, when they were both young actors on Home And Away.

Also shooting in Byron Bay is Nicole Kidman’s Nine Perfect Strangers and a series called Eden.

“I feel very fortunate to be filming in this time,” Lucas said.

“Everyone is very respectful of health and maintaining their health. We are grateful to be shooting at this time.”
