Guy Sebastian revealed a simple truth when he celebrated his new album reaching number one: family is everything.
The singer celebrated the achievement with an emotional reunion with his family on Saturday night.
It was the first time Sebastian had seen his parents, Ivan and Nellie, in more than seven months, with his family flown in to Sydney from Adelaide.
“I would go so far as to say the most amazing night that I have had in a very long time, just being with my family in all aspects of that word,” Sebastian told The Sunday Telegraph.
“To have my parents come in and my siblings and in-laws, just tipped me over the edge. I was a bit of an emotional wreck.”
T.R.U.T.H is Sebastian’s third number one album and his first in eight years.
It is a triumphant album filled with emotions in a year that the world has struggled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“I will never forget this moment,” he said. “I do realise how rare it is and as an Australian artist to be able to get that number one and for the music to connect with people the way it has means the world to me.
“It has been an eventful bunch of years but also some years that caused me to grow as a person immensely and as an artist immensely as well.
“I feel so connected to my music and so connected to what it does for people. I treasure what I do and I am so grateful for this.”
Sebastian, 38, signed to Sony Music after winning the inaugural season of Australian Idol in 2003.
Sony Australia boss Denis Handlin said: “This is a special Number one for Guy Sebastian. He has overcome a tremendous amount of adversity in recent times and his work ethic in the making and promoting of this album has been outstanding. I am so proud of Guy and the team in what is a truly remarkable achievement, and it was very emotional to celebrate this incredible milestone with Guy’s family and friends and our team.”

Sebastian parted ways with long time manager Titus Day, who has been charged with defrauding the singer of more than $1 million between 2013 and this year. Day has denied all of the charges.
T.R.U.T.H is Sebastian’s ninth studio album, spawning hugely successful singles including Standing With You, Choir, Before I Go and Love On Display. Armageddon, released in 2012, and 2003s Just As I Am also topped the charts.
He has sold more than four million albums to date and has had six number one singles.
“What a journey it’s been. I still can’t believe that one of the most personal albums I have released has resonated with so many people,” he said. “It has been quite an extraordinary year for everyone, and I am really humbled that these songs have connected and helped along the way.”
Sebastian’s November and December 2021 T.R.U.T.H national tour is on sale now.
Last week, Sebastian detailed his heartbreak over his split and ongoing legal proceedings with his former manager.
“We had been together for 11 or 12 years and our families were really tight and so it has become a very hard thing to comprehend,” Sebastian told Seven’s The Morning Show hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur. “I think more than ever I do all of these circles of emotions and always end up at why.”
