Grammy Award winner Dua Lipa announced to perform at Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2020

They follow in the revered footsteps of singers Kylie Minogue, Cher and Cyndi Lauper. Today the performers at the 2020 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras have been named.

Female artists dominate 2019 Grammy Awards

New Rules pop singer Dua Lipa will headline the 2020 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Party.

Following in the well trodden footsteps of gay icons including Kylie Minogue, Cher, Olivia Newton-John and Cyndi Lauper, the British Grammy Award winner is the first artist announced to perform at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Saturday, February 29.

“Dua will be joined by a smorgasbord of eccentric and extraordinary performers and DJs from home and abroad who will fill the atmosphere with pulsing techno, tantalising house and euphoric gay anthems until the early hours,” organisers said.

“Having rapidly ascended the upper echelons of the music industry since her 2015 debut, Dua Lipa has already amassed an impressive repertoire of accolades including: Most streamed album by a female artist on Spotify, most streamed artist in the UK in 2017, three BRITS, two Grammys and the title of youngest female solo artist in YouTube history to reach one billion views with her hit single New Rules.”

Fans eager for a taste of Dua Lipa won’t have to wait until February though, with the One Kiss singer set to appear at the ARIA Awards later this month.

The chart topper is currently on a global PR blitz with her hit new single Don’t Start Now, which sold more than 40 million copies in its first week.

Meanwhile, Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst will join forces with Australian theatre star Trevor Ashley for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

The powerhouse duo will perform at the State Theatre on February 27 along with a 40-piece-orchestra.

“Trevor has become such a good friend that I have the feeling we’ve know each other forever,” Wurst said.

The concert was announced as part of the Mardi Gras Festival program, with a line-up of more than 100 events to take place between February 14 and March 1.

Organisers also announced the theme for this year’s Mardi Gras parade as What Matters.
