Former Neighbours stars speak out about being snubbed in finale

Almost 900,0000 Aussies tuned in to the Neighbours finale featuring a host of famous cameos. However three former stars of the show were not happy about the nostalgia-charged farewell.

Who would have thought the Neighbours finale would be so controversial?

A number of former castmates have come out of the woodwork to voice their anger at being “snubbed” and “cancelled” from Thursday night’s final episode of the long-running soap.

Almost 900,0000 Aussies tuned in to Thursday night’s nostalgia-charged finale, which saw appearances from Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce and Holly Valance.

However, whether former cast members David Clencie, Craig McLachlan and Nicola Charles tuned in is yet to be known.

Original Neighbours star David Clencie, 57, has called the show a “disgrace” for allegedly stealing his storyline idea and for “shafting him”.

Clencie, who played Danny Ramsay in 1985 and 1986, claims Neighbours bosses failed to attribute his idea which was allegedly used in recent episodes for Shane Ramsay’s (Peter O’Brien) return storyline.

“As Neighbours draws to a close, I’d like to say some truths about the current regimen and certain things that have, to be honest, made me quite angry,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Nicola Charles claims she was snubbed from the Neighbours finale because of her outspoken views on Covid and vaccinations.

“In 2020 I did an article for a website called Neighbours The Perfect Blend. I was asked if I would ever make a return and if so what would be a storyline that could be good for a Danny Ramsay return.

“Well, fast-forward to the last week and the end of the how after 37 years and the current regimen have copied my idea to a tee with one difference. Not Danny Ramsay.

“To add insult to injury they have used a clip with myself … and did not inform my agent or offer a fee for this.

“1. Don’t pinch my storyline. 2. Don’t try and be sneaky and air a clip without informing me and offering me a fee. 3. It takes two minutes to write a quick reply to my approach and say thanks but no thanks.”

Former Neighbours star McLachlan was a little more subtle about his gripes, recording his own tribute to ’80s heart-throb Henry Ramsay after being snubbed from Thursday’s series finale.

The 56-year-old actor, who was cleared of indecent assault charges two years ago, believes “cancel culture” is the reason why he wasn’t invited to appear in the finale.

Elsewhere, Nicola Charles, who played bombshell Sarah Beaumont, the one-time mistress of Dr Karl Kennedy, said just like McLachlan she had been cancelled.

She claims she was overlooked after getting “universally cancelled for speaking her truth” on Covid and vaccines.

“I’ve been cancelled because I am unvaccinated,” Charles told Saturday Confidential.

“In the end I felt relief that Sarah Beaumont had not been part of the shambles offered up as the last episode of Neighbours.”
