A “resilient” Erin Molan says she has had the best year of her career despite being caught up in reports of a bitter feud with football great Andrew “Joey” Johns.

Molan was drawn into much speculation after it was revealed Johns had pulled out of working on Friday night football.

“Professionally I reckon I have had my best year to date, I have never loved what I am doing more,” Molan told The Saturday Telegraph.

“It was a bit of a busy month with media and speculation and all of that kind of stuff. I don’t enjoy that element but I understand it is part and parcel.

“I am trying to think how I do feel, I haven’t really actually reflected on it.”

While Johns and Channel 9 denied any rifts, he and Molan were not seen on screen together in the NRL grand final coverage.

Molan is very much happy to be back on air on 2GB and looking forward to the 2020 NRL season after recently falling down the stairs and breaking her arm.

“I love hosting Friday Night Footy, I love Sunday Footy Show, I love radio, I love news and I have really had probably the best year professionally in my entire career,” she said.

“I don’t look at it (speculation over a rumoured feud) as it kind of ruined the year that I have had at all. I would prefer if it didn’t happen but that is life.

“I have a healthy daughter. I have such a healthy sense of perspective because I have a healthy daughter.

“Unfortunately exposure to so much of it does make me resilient. I reckon I just get more and more resilient every time.

“People have real problems. Look at what people have just gone through with the fires and people who have kids in hospital or spouses diagnosed with cancer — I am well and truly a very blessed, lucky person.”

Molan sat down with The Saturday Telegraph with her 2GB broadcast partner Natalie Peters. The pair were named Best On-Air Team on the AM dial for 2019 at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards last month but Molan couldn’t attend after breaking her arm days earlier.

“We have this great relationship in the studio where we are open and honest with each other and we have become really close friends as well as close colleagues so of course it is hard watching negative comments coming out,” Peters said.

“But what has been more overwhelming is I think I’ve read many more positive comments, especially from people in the industry.

“Erin is the most resilient person I know in this industry and I of course want to be there to back her up and then we get back in here to do our thing and none of that matters. That is the kind of person she is.”

Molan’s left arm is still in a sling, meaning she can’t drive for some time and her partner Sean Ogilvy has taken a month off work to help with their 18-month-old daughter, Eliza.

“It is hard not working and it is hard not being able to do day-to-day things but she (Eliza) doesn’t understand as an 18-month-old that mum can’t pick her up or that I can’t do all of the things that I used to do with her,” she explained.

“That has been the hardest, her not understanding why I am not as active with her as I normally am and Sean obviously having to do everything. He has just been phenomenal.”
