Watching her partner play cricket used to be something sports reporter Erin Holland looked forward to.
Now, after Brisbane Heat player fiance Ben Cutting cut his face open during a game, the experience is more harrowing than fun.
“I never used to worry but every time the ball goes up in the air and he catches it, I am like ‘don’t drop it on your face’,” Holland told Confidential ahead of watching Cutting play in the Big Bash League against Sydney Thunder on Wednesday night.
“I try to get to as many games as possible but I actually genuinely don’t like watching him play. I find it really stressful and just hopes he plays well.
“It is such a big thing with their form, if they are not on top of their game or in good form, they are a chance of being dropped.
“You know what it is like having a bad day at work but he could have a bad day at work in front of 30,000 people at the Gabba as well as everyone watching at home.”
Holland has forged her own path in cricket over the past few years, hosting coverage in India, Dubai and Canada before landing a gig on Channel 7 for its BBL coverage.
She grew up watching cricket with her family and has long been a fan of the game.
“I get really stressed for him and feel for him in that way and really want him to do well,” said Holland, hosting a beauty launch of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer on Sydney Harbour.
“I absolutely love watching the game but I love it less when I watch him play.
“It is difficult because I know what he goes through and how seriously he takes things. You take it to heart and live it with them as it is happening on the field too.”
