John Laws has refused to identify the buyer of his redundant Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf apartment, however the word from the glamorous precinct is the veteran radio host has offloaded his two-bedder to British billionaire industrialist Sanjeev Gupta.
Laws bought the apartment in 2001 for $3 million before acquiring, four years later in 2005, the three-bedrooom apartment upstairs for $15 million.
The two amalgamated apartments were home to the radio legend and his wife Caroline and were situated directly under actor Russell Crowe’s vast Finger Wharf spread until the now widowed Laws decided to split the properties and sell the lower level apartment this year.
This column’s sources suggest the price tag for the waterfront patio apartment with vast sea-level harbour views is around the $10 million mark.
Gupta couldn’t be reached for comment yesterday and Laws’s reps have refused to identify the buyer or price tag.
Gupta appears to have been on a property buying spree in recent years.
In 2019 he purchased Potts Point mansion Bomera for a reported $34 million then in 2021 he and wife Nicola – who are said to be among the largest landowners in the UK – paid $60 million for a London townhouse in Belgravia.
Apartments in the tightly held Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf are in high demand.
Sanchia Brahimi, the philanthropist ex-wife of celebrity chef Guillaume, was last year looking to offload a four-bedroom apartment with western views to the city bought in 2021 for $11.7 million.
