Delta Goodrem enters ‘wife era’ with a wedding and a reinvention

Delta Goodrem has stepped into what she calls her “wife era”, marrying longtime partner Matthew Copley and taking full creative control of her career — the latest chapter in a life already marked by reinvention.

Delta Goodrem has gone through multiple eras since she shot to fame on Neighbours and now she has launched a new one with her “wife era”.

We’ve been along for the ride with her TV era, her Innocent Eyes era, her musical theatre era, her international era, her The Voice era and her – thankfully short – “Poo” era.

Aside from that brief fling with former tennis star Mark Philippoussis, she has barely put a foot wrong.

And in the past two years she has reinvented herself again. She has taken creative control of her brand, severing her longstanding ties with Sony Music and launched her own record label.

Last year she parted ways with her manager of 11 years, Tina Kennedy.

And, most recently, she tied the knot with her longtime guitarist and collaborator Matthew Copley, marking the beginning of the “wife era”.

“I’d been signed (with Sony) longer than I hadn’t in my life,” she told Marie Claire Magazine’s August edition.

“It felt like the right time. The world had shifted, and I’d shifted too. I wanted to take what I’d learnt and build something that made sense for what’s next. I feel excited and empowered and impassioned to create and to enjoy it.”

Goodrem recently returned from her wedding in Malta.

The couple wed in the same place that Copley proposed almost two years earlier, with guests including Goodrem’s mother Lea, brother Trent and friends of the pair, such as presenter (and Goodrem’s former LA roommate) Renee Bargh and Richard Wilkins.

“I feel like I’m becoming my full self, because I have someone who really sees who I am, and likewise,” she said.

“I feel like I’m in my wife era.”
